PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Sapim, a Belgian company founded in 1918, has been producing high quality spokes for the better part of a century. Combining their extensive experience and a commitment to innovation, Sapim is able to produce the best quality spokes available today. Sapim’s success with providing companies such as Zipp and Shimano with OE spokes, as well as their ongoing support of and feedback from professional racers speaks volumes to their confidence.
The CX-Ray is Sapim’s flagship high performance spoke. Don’t let the low weight of these spokes fool you; the CX Ray’s tested tensile strength is nearly 50% better than a standard straight gauge spoke, with a fatigue life three times as long! These spokes hold their own under the world’s best athletes; road racers, triathletes, and even downhill racers. Consequently, the CX-Ray is the go-to spoke for any high end wheelset, from low spoke count sub-800 gram climbing wheels to ultra-durable, high-strength 32 spoke mountain wheels. These are the lightest and most durable stainless steel spokes available today.
Straight pull CX-Ray spokes are intended for use on hubs with straight pull flanges, such as those from Extralite.
Ordering
Please note that Sapim spokes typically measure slightly shorter than the listed length. Virtually any length can be custom cut in-house, and we are happy to provide assistance in calculating spoke lengths; contact us here. These spokes are sold individually and do not include nipples.
Assembly
We recommend that high end wheels built with CX-Ray spokes be assembled by an experienced wheelbuilder. We are happy to provide this service, and can provide helpful suggestions in hub and rim selections. Please contact us directly or submit a custom wheel build request here.
While these spokes do not require any special wheel building techniques, the thin bladed section must be supported near the nipple to prevent helical twisting. The best tool for this purpose is the Alchemy Bladed Spoke Holder. With a 2.3 mm wide blade, the CX Ray does not require slotting of the hub’s spoke holes.
The CX-Ray still receives one of the best results in fatigue testing of any spoke. Its unique strength and flexibility make the CX-Ray suitable for most bicycle disciplines. The middle section of the spoke is drawn then pressed in a special mold to form its specific profile. CX-Ray spokes are used by top bike racers and triathletes around the world. Even downhillers use them, recognizing their strength and flexibility. Special alloy treatment and sophisticated production make this all possible. The CX-Ray fits in all standard hub holes.
