They say that “form follows function”. Our new RC5 high performance road shoe is the perfect example of this. Our goal was to create the ideal road shoe that works splendidly for both casual spins straight through to competition. It must have excellent power transfer and efficiency so energy from your foot goes straight into ground speed. It also needs to be comfortable enough to ensure that your longer rides are pleasurable straight up to the very last pedal stroke.

FUNCTION

Seamless midsole construction
We started with a seamless midsole construction to create a new level of fit, stability, rigidity and lightweight performance. This works by allowing us to create a very low stack height (distance from foot to pedal) midsole that stabilizes the foot and maximizes power transfer and efficiency for improved pedaling performance. What you’ll feel is that you are more solidly connected to your pedals. By increasing the carbon proportion of the lightweight carbon fiber reinforced nylon sole, we could further improve the shoe’s power transfer and your solid feeling while pedaling.

When partnered with BOA’s L6 custom dial technology with wire guide lacing for micro-tension adjustment, we could reach that next level of fit optimization, efficiency and comfort. Just turn the knob until you reach that glove-like fit.

Shimano Dynalast
By incorporating Shimano Dynalast technology with optimized toe-spring section, we could create a wider range of motion for a smoother, more efficient upstroke. What you’ll notice is a more comfortable, natural pedal stroke. This improved pedaling efficiency helps reduce energy loss that you’ll certainly come to appreciate as the kilometers tick by.

Women’s specific last
For our line of women’s RC5 road shoes, we created a women’s specific last with a unique upper curvature volume of the shoe to include toe shape and heel height. When you slip it on, you’ll feel like it was made for your foot. Its elevated comfort level may just inspire you to extend your rides.

FORM

The design of the RC5 consists of a full surround wrapping upper structure. It not only supports all defined functions of this high-performance shoe but also reduces overlap, to provide a glove-like fit. In addition, this smart design allows it to work well with a wider range of foot shapes.

The upper material is composed of Mesh/TPU/Synthetic leather composite to further improve the shoe’s fit and comfort. Improved breathability is built into its design to more easily handle those hot, summer days.

WHAT RC5 DELIVERS

Thanks to the intricate merging of Form and Function, the RC5 is also very lightweight at 250g (size 42), but with a high stiffness rating of 8 (out of 12) for optimal balance between rigidity and comfort. The shoe’s design also allows for wider cleat adjustment to perfectly match your body geometry and riding style. To get the most out of your RC5 shoes’ benefits, pair them with Shimano PD-R7000 road pedals.
